The Mark Karbowski 12th Player Award
The Western New England Chapter initiated the annual 12th Player award
in the early 1990’s to recognize a member who exemplified extraordinary
efforts to help his fellow officials and the chapter. In 1996 the award
was renamed the Mark Karbowski 12th Player Award in recognition of Mark
Karbowski who passed away prematurely at the age of 46 early in 1996.
Mark Karbowski became a member of the EAIFO in 1985. Mark was a charter
member of the Western New England Chapter which was established in 1987,
and he co-authored the Chapter’s Constitution and By-Laws. Mark was an
excellent football official who rose to the Division I-AA ranks in 1992
as an Umpire and was highly respected by both his fellow officials and
coaches. Mark was always willing to assist his fellow officials in
their personal growth and development as an official and he is sorely
missed. Mark was recognized for his leadership abilities when he was
elected to the Executive Committee of the Western New England Chapter in
1989 and assumed the role of Chapter President in 1991.

The 2007 winner of the Mark Karbowski 12th Player Award of the Western
New England Chapter (Wne) of the Eastern Association Intercollegiate Football
Officials (Eaifo) is:
Christopher Junjulas of Clifton Park, NY a member of the Western New England chapter
since 2000 for his outstanding efforts in assisting fellow officials to become productive
members of the chapter. Chris has served on the Wne Chapter Executive Committee for
the past two years. His efforts with the Wne Chapter Div-II Clinic this year, his help to
coordinate study groups in the Albany area for several years, and his volunteering to
make copies of the NFL Field Mechanics DVD's for all the Eaifo chapters has exemplified
extraordinary efforts to help his fellow officials and the chapter.
